Japanese Traditional Felt Rug “Mousen”

“Mousen” has been used as an auspicious covering since ancient times. During the Nara period of Japan (around the 8th century), a beautifully patterned “Mousen” carpet was presented to Japan from the Tang dynasty of China and is still kept in the Shosoin Repository (an ancient historical building of treasure storage in Japan) today.
